 About Us

The vision of Lilivale Stud is:

To build a reputation as a high quality and ethical small to medium size breeder of Thoroughbred Horses, Performance Horses and Droughtmaster Cattle that supplies animals to the Racing Industry, Performance Horse Industry and the Beef Cattle Industry with excellent conformation, performance characteristics and temperament.

Lilivale stud is owned and managed by Stewart and Jennie Barr.  The name “Lilivale” comes from the two separate words of “Lili” and “vale”.  Lili is the name of the first foal bred by the Barrs.  This foal has exceptional confirmation and temperament and is truly one of a kind.  The property which is home to the stud is located at Highvale in the Samford Valley of South East Queensland, which is where the word ‘vale’ is derived from; hence the name “Lilivale” was born.

THOROUGHBRED & PERFORMANCE HORSES

A passion for all things equine was born when the Barr family became involved originally in endurance riding followed by a heavy and longstanding involvement with eventing, which still exists today.  The Barrs started buying ex-racehorses to compete as eventing horses, and this is how they came to fall in love with the world of Thoroughbreds.  It became apparent that the athleticism and competitive nature of Thoroughbreds is what makes them such an amazing breed.

The Lilivale Stud Thoroughbred breeding program began with the purchase of the black-brown broodmare Kagubatan by Charnwood Forest (IRE) from Baerami Thoroughbreds.  The broodmare pool was quickly extended from one to three with the addition of two top quality mares from the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.  The purchases were Endless Maize, a chestnut mare by End Sweep (USA), and Pegasus Tears, a chestnut filly by Fusaichi Pegasus.

Lilivale Stud also features the Hanoverian broodmare PS Wandering Lady, by Winterkoenig (imp).   “Lady” is an incredibly athletic bay mare descending from dressage and jumping lines.  Lady successfully produced her first foal in 2006 with the birth of the bay filly, Lilivale Falk’s Lady, otherwise known as “Lili”, as previously mentioned.  Lady had her second foal in December 2008, to the same sire, KS Falkrich.

DROUGHTMASTER CATTLE

Both Stewart and Jennie’s parents came from the land – Stewart’s family from the South Burnett District of Queensland and Jennie’s from the Clarence River in Northern New South Wales.  Stewart’s grandfather (Eddie Barr) was the Manager of Sunday Creek Station near Hivesville, with Stewart’s father Cliff Barr also working on Sunday Creek before and after WWII before becoming a pineapple farmer in Beerwah in the early 1950s.  Jennie’s father (Don Eggins) has been a sugar cane farmer all his life but always ran a herd of 30 or 40 beef cattle on the side.

Stewart and Jennie were most fortunate to be mentored in setting up the Droughtmaster herd at Lilivale by the owners and management team at Lorraine Station near Roma in Southwest Queensland.  Lorraine is owned by Rodney and Alison Clunes and has recently been managed by Lachlan Garden, however it was managed by Lachie’s mother and father (Fred and Sandra Garden) when the Droughtmaster Stud was established.  The Lorraine stud herd was established through a disciplined purchasing, breeding and culling program to ensure that the Lorraine line is true to type displaying consistently excellent skeleton and muscle structure and above all good temperament.
